Establishment of NCERT
The “National Council of Educational Research and Training” or NCERT- National Council of Educational Research and Training was established on 27 July 1961 by the Ministry of Education. But it formally started its work on 1 September 1961. The main objective of establishing this is to work and help the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare, especially on all policies related to school education. Earlier there were seven different National Institutes of Education functioning in the country. On 1 September 1961, all these seven educational institutions were merged to form a single institution. Which was named as NCERT. These seven institutions were –
- Central Institute of Education.
- Central Bureau of Text Book Research.
- Central Bureau of Educational and Vocational Guidance.
- Directorate of Extension Program for Secondary Education.
- National Institute of Education.
- National Center for Elementary Education.
- National Institute of Audio-Visual Education.
